Today’s WIWT picture featured my newly acquired Allen Edmonds “Mora” double-monks. Sadly, these are currently not in production and I don’t think there’s anyone else better suited to profess a love for these shoes than L.A.S. at Sartorially Inclined, calling it a “sartorial unicorn.”
Well, last week I caught and killed a unicorn.
You might remember the Groupon deal for Nordstrom Rack ($25 for $50 worth of merch at their stores), which I snatched up and thought might be worth holding on to to maybe get a new scarf or score some other staples, like socks.
I figured I might as well hit the store the day before Thanksgiving, knowing the day after would probably wipe out a lot of the store’s stock. As it happened, I decided to give the shoe racks a look over. If you’ve ever been to the store on State St. in downtown Chicago, then you know what a mess they are. I’ve managed to find some Allen Edmonds before, but nothing at what I’d consider “super cheap” (lowest I’ve found for a dress shoe has been $160).
But then I saw a lonely double-monk sitting on the rack. Thinking it might be a questionable brand, I grabbed it to check for a leather sole. Boom. I look inside.
My heart skips.
I march directly over to the shoe-mate counter, get the left shoe and try them on.
The craziest part wasn’t that I managed to find this coveted shoe, but the price I paid for it.
That’s right, $100. Minus another $25 with the Groupon that brought the cost to $75.
