Coming soon: My summer wardrobe cleaning sale
Selling off an unlined and unconstructed blue cotton Burberry blazer (huge response and pretty much sold), several ties (including silk knits, a navy Kiton 7-fold, a Wilkes & Bashford cashmere, a burgundy grenadine, a McNairy “wavy” repp), and several pocket squares.  Basically, I’ve never worn this stuff since moving out to California and I see no point in keeping it around...

Time for another round of questions received from anonymous askers. Feel free to ask your own or e-mail me.  +++ Jacket linings: Your seersucker roundup was great! But I have a question about lining. Does a jacket in a summer fabric actually feel any cooler than my regular worsted wool suit jackets if it’s lined? Should I only be looking for summer suits that are unlined or partially...

Seersucker suit roundup
Memorial Day marks the beginning of two well-known sartorial traditions: wearing white and wearing seersucker. While many would say to disregard using the days of the calendar to decide what you should wear and when, you can’t really disregard the common sense (or appeal) of wearing seersucker during the warm and sunny months.  I won’t try to convince you that owning a seersucker suit...

Every couple of days I take the anonymous questions I receive and answer them in this column. Of course, I also am more than happy to reply to you via email or privately via Tumblr’s ask function. Feel free to submit your questions here. +++ Suede shoe care: Hi Kiyoshi! How do you take care of your suede shoes? I don’t do anything. Seriously. I put shoe trees in them when they’re...

Graduation gift guide: pocket knife
Time for another installment of the graduation gift guide, as we veer a bit outside of the traditional gifts toward those a bit more offbeat. +++ Pocket knife — I’m a firm believer every guy should own a knife. Whether you carry it in your pocket, briefcase or just have it sitting on your desk, it’s an essential tool that you’ll use often. You should always use the...

Graduation gift guide: slide belt buckle
The graduation gift guide continues into day three as I explore gift ideas for those leaving academia and entering the working world.  +++ Slide belt buckle — If the graduate is likely to find themselves at a job where they’ll be wearing dress trousers daily, then investing in a quality belt buckle might not be such a bad idea. The slimmer, 1” size of the buckle can be used...

Menswear game stressful →
I have a Pinterest, if that is of interest to you. FWIW, I’m not using it to plan a wedding — it’s mostly navy neckties, navy blazers, black captoe shoes, and white-blue pocket squares.  The only person I’m following is anacutestyle because his idea and execution is great and if you’re looking for dope WIWT “inspiration”, then just follow him. Also, more...

Graduation gift guide: cufflinks
It’s graduation season and I’m listing gift ideas each day for those on your list. Stay tuned and click here to see other items in the graduation gift guide.  +++ Cufflinks — Given the dominance of button-cuff shirts in ready-to-wear clothing these days, it’s becoming more rare to see men sporting French-cuff shirts and building a collection of cufflinks. Still, those...

Graduation gift guide: money clip
With graduation coming up this month, I figured it’d be good to go over some gift ideas in the next few days that would be perfect for those leaving institutions of higher learning for the professional workforce. Click here to see other items in the graduation gift guide. +++ Money clip — Admittedly, it’s a bit of a risky gift to give someone who might prefer using a wallet....

As previously noted, I’ll be answering anonymous questions I receive every once in a while in a column format. If you have urgent, pressing matters, then contact me via e-mail. If you’re on Tumblr and ask, then I’ll reply to you personally or perhaps use your question to write a longer essay addressing the topic.  +++ Black suit for an interview — Hi, great blog. I have a...

Hey everyone! I’m going to be using a new format now for anonymous questions I receive. I’ll round up several of them into a post (thus avoiding flooding your dashboard) into a column titled “Asked & Answered”.  Those of you who ask me questions with your Tumblr username, I’ll correspond directly back to you privately or perhaps make them a topic for a longer,...

White Denim: a summer staple on sale
White denim is fantastic for summer — a favorite of mine last year. It pairs well with blues and tans, making it a great fit to either contrast with hopsack blazers or linen sport coats. For those looking to take a more colorful approach to summer in their tailored jackets — either preppy or Pitti inspired — the neutral tone of white works well to compliment them, too, be they a...

Chicago, I'm headed your way on the 15th
stylepoints: I’m not proposing a meet-up or anything. As a part of my probation, I’m required to notify the residents of any city I visit at least 10 days in advance. You don’t even want to know what I have to do to move into a new neighborhood. Yo, Chicago people…

White bucks roundup
With summer coming up and the Kentucky Derby this weekend, it’s about time to start breaking out the seersucker in your wardrobe. And with summer suiting comes summer casual footwear — particularly the white buck.  They naturally go with summer clothing, like linen and seersucker suits, colored chinos and madras. I particularly like their high-contrast look against dark denim, letting...

Anonymous asked: Great blog. I'll be starting a graduate assistantship in the fall and the preferred dress code is shirt and tie. Here's the thing, I don't like wearing a shirt and tie by itself; in other words I never wear a tie without a blazer, or a v-neck sweater at the very least. How do I go about: 1. Staying in the preferred dress code 2. Not looking like I'm trying to outdo anyone, i.e....

Anonymous asked: Hey Kiyoshi, I was recently gifted a pair of grey suede Grensons and am unsure of what pant/shirt/jacket color combos they could work with. I appreciate any suggestions you may have. Thanks, Kevin

Anonymous asked: Hey Kiyoshi, I have a Memorial Day weekend wedding in Michigan. I have a mid-gray linen jacket I want to wear, but am at a loss for what to wear around it, particularly what color pants and type of shoe. Any advice? Thanks.

Anonymous asked: In regards to the person asking for a good all around shoe. As you mentioned Allen Edmonds, I really think the Strand in walnut is their all-star, can't miss shoe. Looks great with a blue suit, a grey suit, jeans, flannels, etc. I know people who hate AE but give props to the Strand. It's one of the best shoe buys you can make.
