What are your thoughts on the Nordstrom smartcare and John W. Nordstrom dress shirts? thanks.

Here’s the deal why I’m getting rid of all those shirts: I like all of those shirts, but I’ve lost some weight and gone down a neck size.

The Nordstrom smartcare shirts are all French plackets, which just isn’t my preference. Their construction is pretty good though and they’re mostly wrinkle-free out of the dryer. The fabric actually seems better than the average Brooks Brothers dress shirt.

The John W. Nordstrom shirts I have are great. They have Egyptian cotton woven in Italy and they feel substantial. The buttons are thicker. They’ve held up surprisingly well. They’re just a better-made shirt than the Smartcare ones, but you do need to iron them.

Both of them fit slightly larger in the chest than the Brooks Brothers ESF shirts, however, I found they seem to taper a bit better toward the waistline. This is probably because they use shoulder pleats on the back, whereas Brooks Brothers shirts use a center back pleat. Also, all the Nordstrom shirts have split-yolks, whereas Brooks shirts don’t have this.

If they were my neck size, I’d still be wearing them, especially after how much I paid for them.
