Allen Edmond Hamptons -discontinued and cheap- for your inner Gatsby.

Sadly, no 10.5D left in stock. This would be the ideal summer shoe (along with white bucks).

Allen Edmonds Harrison — Continuing my growing obsession with black shoes, I’ve really liked the look of these. Essentially, it’s the Park Avenue on the 333 last with a higher quality leather. While the rounded captoe of the Park Avenue is a conservative staple for suits, I really can’t help but like the squared off and angular toe box.

Apparently, this was four months ago, but I completely missed it.

It’s on sale: Allen Edmonds — The American shoemaker is having their Rediscover America sale from now thru October 9th, with everything 15%-30% off at their site.

Probably the best deal right now is their Fifth Avenue captoe balmorals, which feature a strip of broguing across the toe but nothing more. A good shoe that’s easily worn with a suit or blazer, now on sale for $229 (down from $335).

For those of you with a more workwear vibe, the Long Branch wingtip boot is on sale for $269 (down from $350). It’s got a Vibram lug sole that would probably work very well to provide traction in rain, mud and snow during the winter. I think it’d go great with denim, casual chinos and maybe even tweed trousers.

Allen Edmonds Neumora — Not quite sure what to make of this news, but apparently Allen Edmonds is releasing a new double-monk model called the “Neumora”. Retail is supposed to be $345, but you can pre-order a pair via allaboutshoes on StyleForum for $285. Available in black and burnished brown colorways.

What’s the difference? Hard to say, exactly, but the toebox looks sleeker and the buckles are definitely different. Also, the straps seem longer. Details seem a bit sketchy right now, but we’ll probably know more when they’re available in March.

Wisconsin accent: Allen Edmonds launches bold venture in China

Very interesting article to read:

The 90-year-old company is licensing its first foreign retail stores in China. Luxury shoes manufactured in Wisconsin are going to be sold to consumers in China.

“China is growing so fast, and it’s such a sophisticated market already,” said Paul Grangaard, president and chief executive officer of Allen Edmonds. ’Made in America’ has a really strong reputation there.”

Allen Edmonds signed a 10-year retail agreement with Shanghai-based clothing and footwear sourcing company Talent Creations on Nov. 1. The company’s first Allen Edmonds licensed store is expected to open in late spring 2012 in Shanghai.

AE Strand or McAllister... love the walnut color for both. Which do you think?

- Asked by Anonymous

You going to be wearing suits or wool trousers a lot in a slightly more formal capacity? Strand.

Denim, chinos, casual-fabric trousers? McAllister.

Just my opinion though. I have both (Walnut Strand, dark brown McAllister) and wear them quite often.

HI there, what would you recommend for AE Leeds (cordovan) sizing? I wear 8.5D in the Barrie last, and it's comfortable and snug, but i checked on the brannock device my measurement's 9E. Should I get 9D or E then (for Leeds)?

- Asked by hardcoresoftcore

I’m not an expert, but I know that the Alden Barrie last generally runs a bit larger and (I think) wider than the stated size. Allen Edmonds has a lot of different lasts, but I’ve generally found their stuff runs pretty true-to-size. Probably wouldn’t hurt to give Allen Edmonds a call and talk to their customer-service reps and tell them your Brannock sizing. They should be able to help you out.

Long time fan my friend, I may have to drive up to Chicago for a meetup just to meet you fancy #menswear Godfathers. Anyway, I'm wondering about wingtip price points. I fully understand, embrace, and endorse the common #menswear practice of buying quality that will last long... however I must live within my means at the time being (20 year old university student). Can you recommend any wingtips around $75-125? If there are none worth the buy, I understand that too. Appreciate your time!

If you ever drive up, I’m sure we’d all be more than happy to welcome you.

As for finding cheap — yet good — wingtips, I’m going to suggest you follow this link to eBay and search for a pair of Allen Edmonds in your size and snipe bids like SEAL Team 6. Just narrow the search filter by size and do a sort by “newly listed” and go back through the entirety of search results. Once a day check back on the same search string and you’ll see all the new pairs that were just listed.

You might find a few pairs to add to your watch list (or maybe that you can buy instantly). Just be sure to check that the soles aren’t too terribly worn out. I’ve bought barely worn Allen Edmonds on there for around $50 before. You just have to babysit on the final seconds of the bid and strike. Takes time and patience, but that’s where you’ll probably find your best deals.

Now, if you want to go brand new and not sit around, then that’s a bit harder. Bump your price range up to $150 and get over to Charles Tyrwhitt. Make sure when prompted you stay on the U.K. site, as the American site has higher prices. All the prices will be in GBP, but when you do the conversions to USD, the prices are actually cheaper than the same item’s counterpart on the U.S. site (yeah, I don’t know either, but they still ship to the U.S. on the U.K. site).

Right now there’s a few choices for 99 GBP ($153.03). You’ve got a merlot longwing with a Dainite sole and brown captoe brogue. There’s a few other similarly priced options, too, worth looking at.

For sizing, take your U.S. shoe size and subtract 1 (ie: US 10.5 is a UK 9.5). If you’re a wide foot, then use the “G” fitting. Please don’t pay attention to CT’s size conversion chart as they don’t tell you to subtract a full size from the U.S. size to get the U.K. equivalent — they tell you to only subtract 0.5 of a size. (This is another reason to NOT use the U.S. site, as they’ll send you the wrong-sized shoe.)

CT’s got free shipping right now, so that’ll also save you money, too. I’ve got one of their boots (review tomorrow) and like it a lot. Their shoes are Goodyear welted and made of full-grain calf. At $150, I think they’re a really good deal.
