Warby Parker founder Neil Blumenthal speaks at Big Omaha conference — This is a great talk for those of you interested in the brand beyond just the good-looking frames. He gives you a great behind-the-scenes look of the eyeglass industry and explains how two big companies are essentially responsible for why you’re paying hundreds for a pair of glasses. I liked this quotation in particular:
“Glasses have been around for 700 years. Why are they as expensive as an iPhone and why is there still a billion people on earth who still don’t have access to them?”
I always find listening to founders talking about their companies to be particularly educational and sometimes inspiring. Definitely worth 30 minutes of my time to listen to in the background.

Vintage Brooks Brothers eyeglasses — I saw these a few days ago and discovered the Etsy shop owner actually lives in my neighborhood in Chicago. I met with her to try them on and unfortunately they didn’t fit me (I have a very, very narrow nose arch, which makes it difficult to find frames). However, I will say they’re a wonderful pair of specs after having hands on with them. They’re being sold for $65 right now, which seems very reasonable to me and any decent optical shop could replace the lenses for you.
Anyway, check out the Humble Collective for other vintage menswear. They’ve got some pretty neat stuff there.

WWII Japanese officer googles — Those side shields are nifty.
