It’s on sale: Lands’ End and Lands’ End Canvas — The Friends and Family sale for both sites has been extended thru Tuesday, offering 30% off with code FRIENDS and PIN 3010

Going through some of their newer releases, I noticed this denim shirt jacket from Lands’ End the mariner jacket, which are on sale for $69 and $56 respectively. I’m not huge into workwear, however, I do like the look of these jackets.

The mainline jacket, unfortunately, doesn’t come in a size smaller than medium — and given their sizing that may put some of you out of luck on that version. Still, the LEC version looks pretty cool and it’s cheaper, too.

It’s on sale: Lands’ End — You can take an extra 30% off all sale items at Lands’ End, which produces some of the lowest sale prices on some items so far. In addition to spring-summer items, there’s a few year-round and fall-winter pieces worth checking out.

A couple to note:

  • Linen-cotton trousers: A personal favorite. At $49/pair, these are probably some of the most affordable summer trousers out there. Size down at least 1” in the waist though. Great fabric and I’ve worn my pairs excessively this summer. Worth noting that they have a full range of sizes in every color left, too (navy, white and blogger blue).

  • Silk-knit neckties: Either $21 or $31, depending on what color you want. I’ve got a few of these Lands’ End ties and they’re a good value on discount — made in Italy, knots well, slightly wider width. If you’re buying for fall-winter, go with wine — but there’s also blogger blue and blazer orange knits available, too.

  • Linen dress shirts: In button-down or spread collar. A summer necessity, especially if you wear jackets to work. Lands’ End is also getting their fabric from the same mill that’s providing the fabric for their trousers (Baird McNutt). Not bad for $28.

  • Plaid & solid down vests: For as little as $14 or $17, you too can look as cool as C.B. this fall.

  • Double-breasted cardigan: I picked this up a while ago and really enjoy it. It’s a good transitional piece for fall and spring weather. Not too heavy and thick and also fits pretty trim. A good pickup for $54.

  • Fair Isle sweaters: Considering lots of retailers are putting theirs out right now at full price, here’s a chance to get one rather cheap, for either $15 or $28 in several colors. I’m not personally sold on fair isle prints, but perhaps you might be.

Use code EXCITING with PIN 1521. Sale ends tonight at midnight.

It’s on sale: Lands’ End — Through July 24th, you can get an extra 30% off all items at Lands’ End right now, including sale items. Use code OCEAN and PIN 2012. There’s some slim pickings, but some of you might luck out. Some items of interest:

It’s on sale: Lands’ End linen-cotton trousers — Finding reasonably priced summer trousers can be rather tough (at least before the summer’s over). While cotton trousers are pretty easy to find cheaply, linen’s a bit tougher.

These trousers from Lands’ End are really great. The pants are in their “tailored” fit and are a 54-46 linen-cotton blend, which means they’ve got the breathability of linen, but some wrinkle resistance from cotton.

I’ve personally bought three of them already — that’s how much I like them. I wore them on my trip to Napa Valley earlier this summer in 90-degree heat and continued to wear them quite frequently this summer. The fabric is durable, feels great and is from the Baird McNutt mill in Ireland. I’m extremely pleased with these trousers and on sale they’re a great deal.

Just use code BANNER with PIN 2323 to get an additional 20% off the sale price and free shipping, which brings them to just $56 a pair. That’s a heckuva deal.

Personally, I’m a fan of their “sand” color, but they’ve also got pairs in navy and blogger blue.

Sale ends today at midnight.

It’s on sale: Lands’ End & Lands’ End Canvas — The Memorial Day weekend sales continue. LE & LEC are offering 30% off plus free shipping on orders over $50 with code FLAG and PIN 1122.
It’s worth noting the discount code applies to sale items, too. I picked up this navy cardigan sweater blazer from LEC, which I’ve had my eye on for a while, for $53 — that’s about a third of it’s $150 original retail price.
(Unfortunately, the sale doesn’t apply to their Allen Edmonds shoes.)

It’s on sale: 30% off one Lands’ End item — Use code TROPICAL with PIN 9530 for the discount today and get free shipping, too, if your order is over $50.
I’d check and see if any of the Lands’ End tailored fit suit jackets are in your size and still available, because that brings those jackets — currently on clearance — to $70. Add a pair of trousers for $80 and you’ve got a great suit for $150.
Buy a jacket for $100, apply the discount to get get trousers for $56. Get a suit for $156.
I give these suits the thumbs up if you’re on the ramen-noodle budget and have two myself. And they’ve also received the Put This On seal-of-approval, which was what convinced me to give them a try in the first place.
Corrections: davidixon said:

Re: The Lands’ End suit, the promo code doesn’t apply to the jacket as it’s on clearance and it’s only for regularly-priced items. So, you’ll save $24 on the pants instead of $30 on the jacket. Still not bad.

Things I need to do more: read fine print!

It’s on sale: Lands’ End — Everything at Lands’ End is on sale right now, with an extra 30% off with code ENJOY30 with PIN 1850. And this includes merchandise already on sale and also Lands’ End Canvas. Plus, you get free shipping if you spend $50 or more.

(Unfortunately, their Allen Edmonds shoes are not included.)

You can definitely pick up a Put This On co-signed suit and trousers for about $150 total, which is a really good deal if you don’t have a basic suit yet (or just need some workhorse ones on the cheap).

But, it’s really worth checking out their sale section as you’ll find quite a few great deals — and the extra 30% off stacks on top of their clearance items.

Worth checking out:

Sale ends midnight on Monday.

It just occurred to me that this 40% off + free shipping sale at Lands’ End is a good opportunity for someone on a shoestring budget to pick up a first basic suit.
If you’re, say, a graduating college senior looking to start a job search in the next six months, you probably won’t find a better deal for under $120.
Promo code DONNER, PIN 1585. Jacket, trousers.

I was going to post something similar, but Aliotsy beat me to it. If you don’t have a suit yet and are on the Ramen Noodle Budget*, then here’s a place to get started.
(* Yes, the Ramen Noodle Budget piece is forthcoming. My plan is to bang it out tonight and tomorrow and have it up sometime next week.)

Hey Silentist, nice blog! That charcoal Lands End suit - how's the quality? looks nice enough, how is it 'in person'? I've bought their shirts and ties and love that they have the 'tailored' fit, but have wondered about their suits Thx! John

- Asked by Anonymous

In all seriousness, buy one and see for yourself. They have a bullet-proof return policy.

I liked mine (both of ‘em) enough for the price to keep them and get them altered. Are they the nicest suits you’ll own and can buy? Nope. But for ~$200-250, they certainly are in my book. A lot better than the similarly (or higher) priced stuff from Topman, Zara, H&M, etc. Just my opinion though.

I have the same LE suit that you wore in your 11-30 picture. Mine seems much baggier so I assume you got both the jacket and slacks taken in? I need to find a tailor to do the same alterations, if so. Also, did you shorten the jacket at all because mine seems much longer?

- Asked by Anonymous

Yup, definitely had my tailor do some work on it. The side have been taken in on the jacket, the trousers have had the seat and waist taken in and the legs tapered to a 7.5” leg opening.

I didn’t shorten the jacket, but I am 5’11”-ish and am wearing a regular. Maybe that’s the reason?

Any thoughts on the Lands' End Traditional Wool Cashmere 6-Button Admiral Jacket?

- Asked by theunbuttonedlife

Being a scrawny guy, if it came in the tailored fit, I would’ve probably bought it during the last round of sales.

With it being a traditional fit though, I’ve convinced myself it’s not something to deal with.

Your mileage may vary.

Lands’ End menswear sale — There’s a massive, one-day sale going on at Lands’ End today (as if there wasn’t enough other sales waiting to take your cash). Every single mens item is 30-50% off right now. Plus, you can get another 40% off your highest-priced item in your shopping cart and free shipping if you spend more than $50 (code SNOW with PIN 1174).

Some of the noteworthy deals at prices appealing to those on the ramen noodle budget:

If you need a basic suit or want a cheap, but really well-made knit tie, then these are some pretty spectacular deals.

Wieners & Wingtips: Lands End Tailored Fit Flannel Review

He points out that he should have gotten the pants unhemmed, which I something I agree with when ordering from Lands’ End. I usually get mine tapered anyhow, so hemming them at the tailor isn’t an issue.

It’s on sale: Lands’ End cashmere neckties — You’re probably aware of the Lands’ End sale going on right now (40% off your highest-priced item, free shipping for orders over $50, coupon code WARMANDCOOL with PIN 5429, ends Friday at midnight), and there’s a lot of decent ways you could use it.

There’s the Allen Edmonds Bayfield boots that StylePoints mentioned and there’s definitely the chance to use it on a suit jacket. But looking through their necktie offerings, I noticed Lands’ End now has two cashmere neckties that look pretty nice.

Both are handsewn, 2.75” wide and 100% cashmere. They’re retailing for $130, which I think is kind of ridiculous when you consider that for $135 you can visit the A Suitable Wardrobe online store and get Drake’s London cashmere neckties.

But, here’s the kicker: while the store description simply says the ties are “imported”, these neckties are actually made in Italy. I know this because I asked a customer service representative today.

At $78 that does look like a fairly good deal compared to what else is out there (eBay sniping aside) and is worth a consideration.

ADDING: It also looks really similar to this Polo RL cashmere tie.

Columbus Day sales ending tonight

There’s a bunch of sales going on that are ending tonight (probably around midnight EST) that are worth knowing about. So, in case you missed them, here’s a quick round-up:

  • Lands’ End: Various menswear items are marked down, including their tailored-fit suit jacket and trousers, which puts the price of a full suit at $170. Get free shipping with a $50 purchase using code FALLCOLORS and PIN number 8383.
  • L.L.Bean: Their sale is 10% off all merchandise — including sale and their Signature line. Also, they have free shipping. I’m fairly certain this needed to be activated through their promo e-mail though.
  • Ralph Lauren & Rugby: It’s been discussed before (and thisfits has some recommendations), but you can use RLGIVE2011 and MATCH2011 to get 25% off.
  • Yoox: Not a huge sale, but you get automatic free shipping with a $200 purchase and another 15% off using code vogueweekend@yoox.
  • Brooks Brothers: All of their sweaters are on sale for 25% off.
