IMO re: McNasty - while I've always enjoyed the look of his shoe styling, I tried some on via Bonobos last week (brown suede loafers & brown leather chukkas). I was rather disappointed. While lightweight & aesthetically pleasing, for the pricepoint I thought they were a waste of money. One notable item - I can't agree with paying $300+ for a pair of shoes that can't be resoled (leather versus his "foam" soles). The construction I thought was also flimsy & not impressive by any means.
It’s my understanding that McNairy’s Goodyear-welted shoes can be resoled. I think everything from his New Amsterdam line is Goodyear-welted, but not sure about his collaborations with G.H.Bass. Just because it’s got a EVA, crepe, Vibram or Dainite sole and not leather, that doesn’t preclude a shoe from being resolable. (Of course, if I’m wrong, then let me know.)
Now, whether or not you want to pay $300+ for rebranded Sanders is another question. If you didn’t feel the construction was up to par, then obviously the price isn’t justifiable to you.

A friend has a pair of old (like vintage old) Bostonians with rubber (danite? or vibram? I’m not entirely sure) soles. He had them resoled no problem. I’ve also seen Clarks DB’s resoled with Vibram floating around Tumblr.

Angovodo on Mark McNairy
McNairy is a really talented guy who is not afraid to innovate. That’s a fantastic quality. But when you experiment, you need people to critique your work and give you feedback. If everyone heaps praise on you or stays silent when what you have sucks, you get going in the wrong direction.
I like some of the stuff McNairy does (mainly the shoes), but I’ve never really tried to compare him to other “traditional” menswear brands. I think he’s mixing streetwear with traditional “go-to-Hell” menswear. I’m not personally one to get into the whole streetwear thing, but I can see someone who really likes that being excited about McNairy’s pieces. And while my style is somewhat conservative, I think some of his “fun” pieces would be of interest to me to incorporate.
Do I give McNairy a “pass”? Not really, as there’s definitely items I think look “bad” and I wouldn’t wear — but I don’t make it a point to NTB things I don’t like just because I find them unappealing. There are plenty of other people who want to be negative and “call people out” at every turn. I’d rather just scroll or click away and move on to find things I like and highlight those.

Mark McNairy x Bass Chandler Deck Mocassin - do you cosign as an everyday shoe that goes well with different color chinos/khakis
I’m guessing you’re talking about these at Urban Outfitters? I’m a fan of boat shoes in general and think they work well when you can wear them in sockless weather. For cooler weather, not so much. Regardless, yes, they look great with chinos. I wore my boat shoes almost daily last summer.
In regards to the actual shoe mentioned, I’d probably get something cheaper like Sperry or Sebago, both of which tend to show up on sale quite a bit if you check out Endless, Piperlime, Zappos, etc. I picked up my Sperrys for $40 at Marshalls. Take that $80 savings and pick up something else, like a nice tie a Kent Wang. The soles are going to wear out eventually on those anyway, so I find it hard to justify paying that much for them.

That’s McNairy himself on the far left. ~school girl giggle~
Can someone please hit him up with a #menswear tag?

Pro-Keds x Mark McNairy on Sale
I’m not really one for low-profile sneakers (I only own one pair of sneakers that I exclusively use to exercise), but I know some of you would prefer to have a sleek-looking pair to wear casually during the summer. If that’s the case, then docbound found this great deal:
So I’m surprised no one in the menswear blogosphere caught this, but these Pro-Keds x Mark McNairy suede CVO’s are on sale from $100 to $49.95. Get on it.
FWIW, the non-suede, non-McNairy canvas CVOs are $45. So, for $5 more you can upgrade to some suede sneakers. Not a bad deal.

Just in time for warm weather and holidays comes this season’s collaboration between Mr McNairy and G.H. Bass. Based on classic Bass Weejun silhouettes, this SS11 range uses the finest materials, incorporating Mark McNairy’s astute eye for detail to create a series of shoes that combine Bass’ famous lines with classic American detailing.
Just want to point out that these are “corrected grain” leather shoes. No thanks.
Put This On explains the pitfalls of corrected grain leather:
Besides the tacky finish, corrected grain creases more severely (because of the added layer of plastic-y chemicals on top of the leather), breathes more poorly, and ages badly, as the finish can be damaged or can even flake off of the leather below.

Decision time: captoe pebble-grain boots: McNairy vs. Charles Tyrwhitt
These each cost about the same. The Mark McNairy boots have an EVA sole and the Charles Tyrwhitt boots have a Dainite sole. Both are Goodyear welted.
McNairy:

Tyrwhitt:

I should add that I’m looking to use these as boots to wear in the rain (hence the EVA and Dainite soles I’m looking at here, along with the pebble grain).
Thoughts?
