I believe this is what you’re referencing? I cringed, too.
It’s not that I don’t think Obama should be putting a lot of mental effort into his style (after all, he’s got a full plate of stuff to do these days), but how he dresses sends a signal to a lot of people not just in our nation, but internationally.
I think a lot of people look up to Obama for inspiration (outside of style), so he’s going to be a style icon whether he wants to or not. Michelle already is one and presidents before definitely have been one (Kennedy comes to mind).
Still, I think Obama’s style of dress is truly a reflection of the midwestern-American dad. I feel like there’s a bit of honesty to that, even if it drives people like me crazy saying, “Why doesn’t he get a pair of loafers?!”
