Re: The Lands’ End suit, the promo code doesn’t apply to the jacket as it’s on clearance and it’s only for regularly-priced items. So, you’ll save $24 on the pants instead of $30 on the jacket. Still not bad.

It’s on sale: Dockers Alpha Chinos — For those of you out there with skinny legs and ramen noodle budgets, Dockers’ Memorial Day sale is taking 30% off orders over $100 with code MEMDAY.
This essentially means you get two pairs of slim-fitting chinos for $83 — not bad.
May
It’s on sale: Walk-Over shoes — Neiman Marcus Last Call is having a sitewide 30% off sale for Memorial Day (no code necessary). I think it’s worth checking out their Walk-Over shoes.
Walk-Over Goodyear welts their soles, so the quality is a bit higher. I got a pair of their suede saddle shoes recently and they’re really comfortable to walk around in while sockless. I’ve found them to generally fit true-to-size (I’m a 10.5D in most Allen Edmonds and ordered a 10.5 in Walk-Over).
The two styles that stuck out to me most in this sale are the classic dirty bucks with red-brick soles and the white suede wingtips. Dirty bucks can be worn with just about anything from chinos to dark denim. White suede wingtips might be a bit much for some, but I think they’d look pretty awesome if you’re wearing any seersucker clothing in the summer.

It’s on sale: Lands’ End & Lands’ End Canvas — The Memorial Day weekend sales continue. LE & LEC are offering 30% off plus free shipping on orders over $50 with code FLAG and PIN 1122.
It’s worth noting the discount code applies to sale items, too. I picked up this navy cardigan sweater blazer from LEC, which I’ve had my eye on for a while, for $53 — that’s about a third of it’s $150 original retail price.
(Unfortunately, the sale doesn’t apply to their Allen Edmonds shoes.)

It’s on sale: Tommy Hilfiger sportcoats — Having seen and tried them on in person a few times, I’ve always thought the Tommy Hilfiger “slim fit” line of jackets and suits were a fairly good deal when on sale. With Memorial Day sales going on right now, you can find several summer sportcoats on the discount rack (before summer’s even really started).
The blue chambray sportcoat comes to around $153 with code MEMDAY at Macy’s. You could wear it with chinos like above, but I’d put it with white denim or sand-colored linen-cotton trousers and boat shoes.
The patchwork madras sportcoat comes to the low price of $91 with code MEMORIAL30 at Tommy Hilfiger’s site. I talked about madras yesterday and how to build a toned-down look around this F-U jacket.

Brooks Brothers oxford pique knitted shirt — A casual alternative to the dress shirt. Also on sale today with 30% off with a corporate discount.

Brooks Brothers is having their corporate members sale today, offering 30% off for one day only. I thought it’d be neat to feature a summer look that is put together, but will still keep you cool when temperatures rise.
If you’re looking for a go-to-hell jacket for summer, madras is perfect. Bold colors and super lightweight and breathable. Brooks Brothers has a madras sportcoat in a 3/2 roll in their new Cambridge cut that has an undarted, but slimmer, “sack” cut.
(Those less adventurous might want to consider a seersucker jacket like this double-breasted Milano-cut one that looks pretty cool.)
For trousers, I recommend the linen-cotton Milano-cut chinos. Full linen trousers do have a heck of a time keeping their crease and wrinkle incredibly easy. Cotton by itself can be too heavy to wear in the summer. The combo, however, hits a happy medium I’ve found.
I also highly recommend picking up some linen shirts. They wear cooler than cotton shirting and feel as light as a T-shirt. It might be tempting to get some “fun” colors, but keep in mind that neutral tones will be more versatile.
For shoes, suede bucks are an obvious choice. They’re casual and tan coordinates well with white trousers and doesn’t compete for attention with the madras colors.
A belt might be where a lot of people either overthink or completely swing and miss. Just get a casual D-or-O ring belt. You don’t have to worry necessarily about matching your belt to your shoes in this case (save that rule for leathers) and just pick something that coordinates with the outfit and isn’t too obnoxious.
(If you don’t have a Brooks Brothers corporate card, then thisfits has you covered on how to get one.)

It’s on sale: Brooks Brothers menswear staples — Today starts the Brooks Brothers Friends & Family sale: 25% off all items with code FNFBB1 through May 12. It even seems to apply toward sale items and Black Fleece.
While seasonal items are probably of interest to many, I’m partial to the basics that never hit the post-seasonal clearance racks. Now is a good time to buy if you’re in the market for these items.
My recommendation is to stock up on Brooks Brothers Extra-Slim Fit Oxford Cloth Button-Down dress shirts, which come to around $55 each (including tax and shipping) if you buy three or more. Don’t forget they come in university stripes, too, as well as solids. For the quality of the fabric, construction and fit, you won’t find a better deal off the rack in my opinion.
In terms of other staples, check out their 3/2-roll navy blazer in a traditional sack cut with patch pockets and Loro Piana fabric. It’s probably my favorite style of their offered blazers. And suits, like the Fitzgerald 1818, are also double-discounted when you buy two or more.
And if you live where it’s bound to get sweaty and gross this summer, then pick up some linen shirts, and spare yourself the heat exhaustion of wearing heavier, less-breathable cotton shirts.

It’s on sale: 30% off one Lands’ End item — Use code TROPICAL with PIN 9530 for the discount today and get free shipping, too, if your order is over $50.
I’d check and see if any of the Lands’ End tailored fit suit jackets are in your size and still available, because that brings those jackets — currently on clearance — to $70. Add a pair of trousers for $80 and you’ve got a great suit for $150.
Buy a jacket for $100, apply the discount to get get trousers for $56. Get a suit for $156.
I give these suits the thumbs up if you’re on the ramen-noodle budget and have two myself. And they’ve also received the Put This On seal-of-approval, which was what convinced me to give them a try in the first place.

White Denim: a summer staple on sale
White denim is fantastic for summer — a favorite of mine last year. It pairs well with blues and tans, making it a great fit to either contrast with hopsack blazers or linen sport coats. For those looking to take a more colorful approach to summer in their tailored jackets — either preppy or Pitti inspired — the neutral tone of white works well to compliment them, too, be they a wild madras or vivid washed cotton.
If you’re unsure of where white denim might fit into what you already wear, treat them like you would khaki chinos or grey trousers in your wardrobe. I find white denim works best as a casual alternative to trousers and a warmer substitute for fabrics like linen on sunny weekend days.
Best of all, getting white denim isn’t that costly and fits right in for those of you on the ramen noodle budget.
Levi’s 501s in white denim are on sale for $33.60 with promo code FF2012, which knocks 30% off during their Friends & Family sale. (Sale ends May 7th.)
As far as sizing goes, I went down 2” from my waist size, as the denim will stretch out over time. Also, I took mine to the tailor to have them altered to a 7-inch leg opening and hemmed to no break. They look great with a pair of suede tassel loafers or chukka boots.

It’s on sale: SWIMS galoshes — At Need Supply for $69.99 in size XXL only (US 11.5-12.5). That’s about 30% off retail.
Previously: My SWIMS review.

It’s on sale: Lands’ End — Everything at Lands’ End is on sale right now, with an extra 30% off with code ENJOY30 with PIN 1850. And this includes merchandise already on sale and also Lands’ End Canvas. Plus, you get free shipping if you spend $50 or more.
(Unfortunately, their Allen Edmonds shoes are not included.)
You can definitely pick up a Put This On co-signed suit and trousers for about $150 total, which is a really good deal if you don’t have a basic suit yet (or just need some workhorse ones on the cheap).
But, it’s really worth checking out their sale section as you’ll find quite a few great deals — and the extra 30% off stacks on top of their clearance items.
Worth checking out:
- Navy tailored fit year-rounder wool blazer: $97.99
- LEC khaki chino blazer: $37.78
- LEC nailhead oxford blazer: $17.48
- Down vests in plaid and solid: $17.49

Nice find from edwinzee:
It’s Still On Sale - Gant/Gant Rugger/Gant by Michael Bastian F/W ‘11
I was browsing around Gant’s final sale today and noticed they still have a lot of great items on sale in some decent sizes.
My personal favorite is that Gant by Michael Bastian Cardinal Sweater ($78) that made the rounds around the blogosphere this past fall. A lot of cool people picked up this sweater including Jorma (of the Lonely Island), Britta from Community, and myself. The sweater runs super slim so make sure to go a size up. I wear a size 38R and usually buy small in Gant, but had to get this in a medium.
Other things that I really like include: this mountain vest ($154), the Gant Rugger reversible rain jacket ($79), and the canvas biker jacket ($159) that Tommy recently acquired.
Bonus: Saks Fifth Avenue has the Gant Rugger red salt and pepper sweater on sale for $138. This is a little bit more than what I paid for, but it’s definitely one of my favorite sweaters.

It’s On Sale - Ovadia & Sons Accessories
Park and Bond now has all Ovadia & Sons F/W ‘11 accessories on sale for 50% off. I really like their blackwatch wool tie ($63) and their Scottish wool scarf ($73). Again, another great opportunity to pick up some fall staples for next year! (Or for now if you are currently living in San Francisco).
If you haven’t been following Edwin Zee, then you’re missing out. I don’t have as much time to search out deals as I did at my old job (amazing how much free time you have as a government bureaucrat), so I’ll reblog deals when I see them (or repost tips I get from my fine readers).
